AYN’s latest Android handheld, the AYN Odin 3 Portal, is now available to pre-order, as Retro Dodo reports. It’s a single-screen, 7-inch beast running the Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8 chip, and pre-orders opened on 22 October at early bird prices starting from US$399.
The Dragonwing Q8 is essentially a Snapdragon 8 Elite without the cellular modem, paired with an Adreno 830 GPU. That combination sits the Portal firmly at the top end of Android handheld hardware, and it brings with it a 7-inch OLED display running at 1920 x 1080 and 120Hz, Android 15, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.0. The device weighs 450g and comes in Black, White, and Cold Grey.
How the Portal fits into the AYN line-up
AYN’s naming can trip people up. The Odin 3 line, including this new Portal, all carry Snapdragon 8-series chips, but the Portal brings a refreshed design that Retro Dodo notes looks nearly identical to the Odin 2 Portal, along with a bigger display, a larger battery and more storage options. Think of the Portal suffix as pointing to quality-of-life upgrades and a more modern form factor rather than a raw performance jump over the standard Odin 3.
On the battery front, DLCompare reported in October 2026 that AYN confirmed a 9,000mAh cell for the Portal, up from the 8,000mAh unit in the standard Odin 3. The Portal also supports 60W charging. DLCompare noted that real-world endurance will vary according to how bright the screen is set, the intensity of the workload, and which performance mode is in use. For context, DROIX’s review of the standard Odin 3, updated in September 2026, put that earlier device at around 390g.
AYN teased the Portal through its Instagram and Discord accounts on 13 October 2026, according to Held Games, which covered the announcement at the time.
Emulation, specs and pricing
The controls include Hall-effect analogue sticks with removable caps, analogue triggers, rear paddles and silent ABXY buttons, with optional ergonomic grips and a fan cooler offering Quiet and Customise modes. Retro Dodo reckons the Portal carries enough muscle for PS2, PS3, 3DS, GameCube and Xbox emulation, depending on which RAM configuration you pick, though it notes that some titles may need settings adjustments.
Four configurations are available at early bird prices:
Base, 12GB RAM, 128GB storage: US$399 (retail US$419)
Pro, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage: US$479 (retail US$499)
Max, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage: US$549 (retail US$579)
Max, 16GB RAM, 1TB storage: US$669 (retail US$699)
Retro Dodo advises that because RAM and storage vary across configurations, so too will performance, and recommends waiting for reviews before committing to a purchase at this price point. The device comes with a one-year warranty, and AYN states shipping begins in ‘Early November 2026’.
