The Terranigma Gaia Edition pre-order is now live, giving fans their first proper look at what Clear River Games has assembled for the 1995 action JRPG’s long-awaited return to shelves in January 2027. Three physical editions are available across Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, PS5, and, as VGChartz reports, PlayStation 4 and PC as well, meaning the reissue will reach a wider platform spread than many will have realised.
By the time the game lands on 14 January 2027, it will have been 32 years since Terranigma first appeared in 1995. An entire generation of players has grown up without ever encountering it, which makes this release feel genuinely worthwhile rather than just another nostalgia cash-in. Anyone currently working their way back through classics like Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, or Chrono Trigger should be paying close attention.
What You Get With the Terranigma Gaia Edition
The headline package is the Gaia Edition, priced at £168, and the contents list is substantial. Inside the box you will find a SteelBook, an art book, an enamel pixel pin, an original soundtrack CD, a cloth world map, a mechanical music box, and a Yomi figure. The standard case with foil artwork is included as well, and the game itself comes on an actual physical game card, which is the case across all three releases.
Throughout the Gaia Edition, the artwork is new material by Kamui Fujiwara, whose hand-pixelled work on the original game remains, by any honest measure, phenomenal. The worlds he built carry a particular enchantment that holds up across three decades, and seeing that craft applied fresh to the collector’s packaging is a proper bonus for anyone who remembers what made the game special.
The Terranigma Gaia Edition pre-order sits at the top of the range, but the SteelBook Edition at £55 is no afterthought. It comes with a history booklet, a reversible original sleeve, and a foil sleeve, all featuring the new Fujiwara artwork. Every edition ships with a physical game card, which continues to matter to collectors who remember when that was simply how games came.
Standard Edition Pricing and Platform Details
For those after a clean physical copy without the collector’s trimmings, the standard edition includes a reversible foil cover and the History of Terranigma booklet. Pricing here splits by platform: £35 for Xbox Series X and PS5, and £38 for Nintendo Switch 2. Clear River Games has confirmed the Switch 2 version is also compatible with the original Switch, so owners of the older hardware are not left out.
The broader platform picture is worth dwelling on. According to VGChartz, Terranigma is also heading to PS4 and PC alongside the console releases already announced. That is a meaningful addition: the PS4 install base remains large, and a PC release opens the game up to players who will encounter it through digital storefronts rather than physical retail. The action JRPG’s reach in 2027 will be considerably wider than anything its original 1995 release managed.
All three editions are described by Clear River Games as releases of an action JRPG classic, and that framing is hard to argue with. The original soundtrack alone, which the Gaia Edition includes on CD, does a lot of the heavy lifting in combat sequences, keeping the tension wound tight through dungeons and boss encounters that still hold their own against later genre entries.
Pre-orders for all three editions, across all platforms, are open now directly through Clear River Games, with the release date confirmed as 14 January 2027.
