Square Enix has announced the Final Fantasy Mini Melody CRT TV Toy, a set of six miniature cathode-ray tube-styled toys that light up with an LED screen effect and play memorable melodies from the first six mainline Final Fantasy titles. Pre-orders are open now, with delivery scheduled for 29 January 2027.
Each toy is modelled on the classic boxy CRT television form factor that many of us had perched on a bedroom shelf during the 8-bit and 16-bit era. Flip the switch and the LED behind the screen illuminates, mimicking that familiar warm glow, while the unit plays its selection of iconic tunes from the series. It is a neat physical tribute to the music that made those early Final Fantasy adventures feel genuinely epic on hardware that, by today’s standards, had precious little room to work with.
Final Fantasy Mini Melody CRT: What You Get for Your Money
Pricing is set at ¥1,980 per unit, which works out to around £9 or $12, and the complete set of six can be purchased together for ¥11,880, approximately £55 or $74. For a collection of individually playable, illuminated retro-styled toys covering Final Fantasy titles I through VI, that represents reasonable value for the shelf space they will occupy.
The dimensions are quoted at approximately 62mm wide, 44.5mm deep, and 53mm high, which makes these genuinely tiny objects. To put that in perspective, each one would sit comfortably beside a standard mechanical keyboard’s function row without blocking a single key. They are the kind of thing that would look perfectly at home next to a BBC Micro, a Spectrum +2, or indeed any machine from the era when those original Final Fantasy games were actually current.
Square Enix announced the range via its official goods account, posting in Japanese with the hashtag #FF and confirming that each toy brings together pixel art visuals on the LED-lit screen alongside the melodic soundtrack selections. The Japanese copy describes the experience as a ‘nostalgic toy’ combining dot-art aesthetics and sound, which is an accurate summary for anyone who remembers gripping a controller and hearing those opening notes for the first time.
The Blind-Box Catch Worth Knowing Before You Order
There is one wrinkle worth flagging before you reach for your wallet. The six-unit set carries a caveat on the packaging stating that a pack may not contain a complete set, which means duplicate units are a possibility even when purchasing the bundle. For collectors who want all six variants representing each of the first six games in the series, that is a frustration worth knowing about upfront. Whether you would rather order individual units or gamble on the bundle is a calculation only your shelf space and patience can settle.
The toys cover the period widely regarded as the golden age of the series, from the original 1987 Famicom title through to Final Fantasy VI on the Super Famicom, a run of games whose music, composed primarily by Nobuo Uematsu, defined how role-playing game soundtracks could work within the tight constraints of early sound hardware. Hearing those melodies reproduced through a tiny CRT-shaped toy is precisely the kind of physical nostalgia object that holds its appeal long after the unboxing.
Pre-orders are available now through the Square Enix store, with the release and delivery date confirmed as 29 January 2027.
