Aichi, Japan is about to make its mark on the global startup scene with the launch of TechGALA 2025, the region’s first-ever international startup conference. Known for its commitment to innovation within a robust, established system, Aichi offers a fresh perspective on business growth and technological advancements, integrating tradition with cutting-edge ideas.

    A Unique Approach to Innovation

While the global startup world thrives on disruption, Aichi’s culture values innovation that enhances existing systems, rather than working against them. Situated between Tokyo and Osaka, Aichi has long been a manufacturing powerhouse, home to Toyota and many other leading companies. Its expertise in precision engineering and high-tech manufacturing has made it a hub for technological advancement. Now, it’s set to demonstrate how a self-motivated workforce and innovative thinking can drive international success by blending tradition with forward-thinking solutions.

Akihisa Mizuno, Chairman of the Central Japan Economic Federation, spoke to the vision behind TechGALA: “Our goal is to create an ecosystem where manufacturing and research collaborate to produce globally competitive startups that leverage deep tech. TechGALA will act as a catalyst for startup success in Japan, opening up new opportunities for businesses both locally and internationally.”

An Unmissable Event for Entrepreneurs and Innovators

From February 4th to 6th, 2025, Nagoya’s dynamic Sakae district will host over 300 expert speakers, including key figures from Japan and overseas, alongside a hackathon, pitch contest, and side events designed to inspire and engage the entrepreneurial community.

TechGALA will cover five core themes essential for future global innovation:

    • Mobility: Advancing borderless transportation solutions for a connected future, with a focus on electric vehicles and smart city infrastructure.
    • Sustainable Environment: Developing strategies for a resilient and sustainable Earth, including the role of clean energy technologies and circular economies.
    • Material Innovation: Revolutionising industrial materials for modern challenges, especially in the fields of manufacturing and construction.
    • Life Science/Well-Being: Exploring breakthroughs in health, wellness, and biotechnology, addressing global health challenges such as ageing and disease prevention.
    • Advanced Technology: Showcasing cutting-edge AI, robotics, and other transformative technologies that are driving societal and industrial transformation.

    Speakers and Thought Leaders

The conference will feature an impressive range of speakers, including Dr. Adriana Marais, a leading expert in space exploration, and Marcus Brauchli, Chairman of Blue Ocean and former Executive Editor of The Washington Post. Also joining the stage are Professor Seita Emori, climate scientist; Mari Ogiso, Co-CEO of SDG Impact Japan; and Christina Yasuda, expert in digital identity systems at SPRIN-D, among many others. These distinguished individuals will offer insights into the key themes of TechGALA, drawing from their own fields of expertise.

    Global Startup Showcase

TechGALA will feature Aichi’s inaugural major pitch event, the Global Startup Showcase. This competition welcomes Japanese startups seeking global growth, as well as international startups aiming to enter the Japanese market. Startups aligned with TechGALA’s core themes will compete for a 1 million yen cash prize and the chance to meet with major Japanese companies. Finalists will also receive support for their market entry and network with potential partners, gaining invaluable exposure.

The application period for the Global Startup Showcase is open now until November 15th, 2024. This is an exciting opportunity for startups to make their mark on the global stage and gain access to vital resources to scale their businesses.

General admission tickets are now available, with a 30% early bird discount offered until December 4th, 2024. Don’t miss your chance to be part of Aichi’s inaugural international startup conference, where innovation, collaboration, and business growth meet.
